In September “Solo” played in three tournaments in Italy: Rome, Livigno and Biella. The best results was reached in the 1st International Chess Tournament Barclays in Rome: clear 1st place in the strong field.
Next came the II International Livigno Chess Open on height of 1800 meters in italian Alps. This tournament brought a very strong line-up: 21 GMs and 13 IMs amongst 52 participants. Yuri was less furios than in Rome and took the decent 5th place in the end.
And finally, in weekend five-round II International Open “Citta’ di Biella” Yuri took “bronze” scoring 4 points. 6 GMs and 6 IMs played amongst 69 players.
In July-August 2011 Yuri Solodovnichenko toured in four tournaments in a row. At first, he traditionally played in the International Open “Citta’ di Bergamo” which was held at 10th, anniversary, time. 8 GMs and 8 IMs competed amongst 52 players.
Then “Solo” flew to a small and sunny sicilian town Gioiosa Marea and won the XVII International Chess Open.
Again having no single day for rest Yuri went to Pamplona to play in the V International Open A.D.San Juan. That was very strong tournament with 16 GMs, 15 IMs and 2 WGMs participated. The tournament was very hard for Yuri and despite the fact that he managed to save by miracle several bad positions, the only loss in the final round threw him behind the line of prize winners.
But “Solo” recovered immediately to finish clear first in the 16th International Festival “Open de Creon”. Yuri dominated the event and scored 7,5 points out of 9.
